By Belize Live News Staff: Floodwaters have surged into several parts of the Orange Walk District following relentless rains that began earlier this week. Alarming footage shows flooded highways, submerged vehicles in Trinidad, and a motorcyclist being swept off the road in San Jose. Entire villages, including Palmar, are witnessing water levels rise rapidly.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing (MIDH), the Belize and Orange Walk Districts have seen floodwaters climb to dangerous levels within just 24 hours. Reports indicate that popular establishments like Come N Dine restaurant are now at full capacity due to the flooding. Trial Farm and Carmelita are also affected.
The Tower Hill weather station just outside Orange Walk has recorded over 8 inches of rain so far. Officials confirm that the rain continues to fall as of Friday night.
Meanwhile, the George Price Highway is also experiencing problems, with video showing fast-moving floodwaters at mile markers 42 and 51.
MIDH says that the culverts along the Boom-Hattieville Bypass are nearly overwhelmed. Experts warn that this level of flooding is highly unusual for such an early point in the wet season.
