Belize sees 30% surge in crime seizures and arrests in 2024/2025, says Minister Kareem Musa

By Belize Live News Staff: Belize’s crackdown on major crimes has seen a sharp rise in arrests and seizures over the past year, according to Home Affairs Minister Kareem Musa. Speaking during the 2025 Budget Debate, Musa reported that 479 arrests were made for serious offenses such as drug trafficking and illegal firearms possession between 2024 and 2025.

“These efforts led to the removal of illegal substances, 139 illegal firearms, and 3,532 rounds of ammunition from Belize’s streets,” Musa shared, highlighting a 30% increase in enforcement results compared to the previous year.

The data points to a strengthened effort by police to dismantle criminal operations and improve public safety. The figures also reflect an increased commitment by the Ministry of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries to tackling organized crime and reducing violence nationwide.
