Tracy Taegar Panton returns for day 2 of budget debate, expresses gratitude for public support

By Belize Live News Staff: Leader of the Opposition, Tracy Taegar Panton, is back in Parliament today for the second day of the National Budget Debate after briefly pausing her address yesterday due to knee discomfort related to a prior medical procedure.

In a public message this morning, Panton expressed deep appreciation for the overwhelming outpouring of love and concern she received from Belizeans at home and abroad. “The silver lining in my moment of vulnerability is the overwhelming outpouring of love, prayers, genuine support and concern from so many Belizeans,” she wrote. “Good always prevails and love always, always wins.”

She also reaffirmed the role of the Opposition in the democratic process, emphasizing that while their numbers may be few, their commitment to honesty, equity, and public service remains unwavering.

Today’s budget rebuttal will be led by Lee Mark Chang, who will focus on analyzing revenue and expenditure estimates for key line ministries on behalf of the Opposition.

Panton closed her statement with confidence and optimism: “Day 2: We are ready!”

The Parliament continues its deliberations on the General Appropriation Bill for the 2025/2026 fiscal year, with the Opposition promising sharp scrutiny of government priorities.
