Belize shows solidarity with Cuba through humanitarian aid donation

By Belize Live News Staff: Belize has joined Mexico in sending humanitarian assistance to Cuba, where a shipment of 1,700 tons of food and basic products arrived in Havana this weekend.

The cargo, transported aboard the Asian Katra, is intended to help ease shortages affecting Cuban communities amid the country’s deep economic and energy challenges.

Cuban officials say the donation was made possible through support from the governments and peoples of Mexico and Belize, along with solidarity organizations and Cuban residents living abroad.

The contribution is significant for Belize, which has maintained a close relationship with Cuba for many years. Cuban doctors have served in Belize’s public health system, and many Belizean students have received educational opportunities through Cuban scholarships.

While Belize remains a close partner of the United States, it has also consistently supported Cuba in regional and international forums, particularly in opposing the U.S. embargo.

This latest donation reinforces Belize’s message that humanitarian assistance should rise above politics, especially when ordinary families are the ones facing hardship.
