By Belize Live News Staff: Leader of the Opposition Tracy Taegar Panton delivered her maiden address in the House of Representatives today in her new capacity, marking a milestone moment in her political journey and expressing heartfelt gratitude to the Belizean people for their unwavering support across three election cycles.
While addressing the nation on matters of national importance, Panton stood for over an hour and a half before taking a brief pause. She later shared that the strain stemmed from a recent surgical procedure on her right leg to repair a torn meniscus. Though she is still undergoing physical therapy, today was the first time she tested her strength by standing for an extended period since the operation.
Thanks to the understanding of the Hon. Speaker and with the support of her parliamentary colleagues on both sides of the aisle, Panton was able to rest briefly before completing her presentation with resolve and composure.
In a personal message posted shortly after the session, she acknowledged the outpouring of messages, prayers, and support: “The love is real and I certainly felt it in a moment when my vulnerability was on full public display.”
Assuring the public of her well-being, Panton reaffirmed her commitment to service, saying she will “continue to power through” and stand firm in defense of Belize’s democracy and way of life.
