By Belize Live News Staff: The Elections and Boundaries Commission has officially announced the dissolution of multiple Village Councils across the country, in preparation for general elections scheduled for June 22 and June 29, 2025.
As per Section 10 of the Village Councils Act, councils must be dissolved at least seven days prior to election day. Two phases of dissolution have been declared—effective June 14 and June 21—impacting villages in every district.
Until new councils are formed, the outgoing chairpersons, secretaries, and treasurers will retain administrative control. The move marks a key step in the country’s grassroots democratic process and sets the stage for renewed leadership across Belize’s rural communities.
