By Belize Live News Staff: In a move that could affect thousands of undocumented immigrants, including Belizeans living illegally in the United States, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has launched a new program offering financial support to those willing to voluntarily return to their home countries.
Under this initiative, any undocumented individual—including Belizeans—can receive a US$1,000 stipend if they opt to self-deport through the CBP One app, a mobile platform used to schedule and manage immigration processing.
This effort aims to ease the burden on U.S. immigration enforcement and reduce the number of forced deportations. It also signals a renewed focus on policies that encourage migrants to leave the country on their own terms rather than face possible arrest and removal by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Belizeans in the U.S. without status are encouraged to review this option carefully. While returning home can be a difficult decision, this initiative provides a window for those already contemplating departure to do so with some financial support.
The government of Belize has yet to issue a formal response, but families in Belize with loved ones abroad are urged to reach out and inform them of this development.
