Police investigate spike in Belize City murders tied to gang feuds

By Belize Belize Live News Staff: A troubling wave of violence in Belize City has prompted action by police, following three murders in just 24 hours—all believed to be linked to escalating gang rivalries.

The latest victim, 26-year-old Kadeem Orosco, was gunned down this morning in the St. Martin de Porres area. Commissioner of Police Dr. Richard Rosado and Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero addressed the media earlier today, confirming that Orosco’s murder is being investigated as part of a wider gang-related conflict.

“Though Orosco may not have been an active gang member, he lived in an area affiliated with one of the factions we’re monitoring,” explained Dr. Rosado. “We’re still exploring several theories to determine the exact motive.”

ACP Romero confirmed that police are working on multiple leads and have detained about 60 individuals across the Belize District as part of targeted operations. “Yes, we believe the incidents are connected. We’ve increased patrols, and our teams are actively carrying out operations to prevent further retaliation.”

Police say city-wide surveillance footage is playing a key role in their investigations. Cameras installed in strategic locations, including the vicinity where Orosco was murdered, are currently under review.

Romero added, “These cameras have already proven useful in helping us piece together the timeline and gather critical evidence. We are hopeful it will lead to arrests.”

Officials are calling on members of the public to share any information they may have, stressing that community cooperation is essential in curbing the violence.

Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the nearest police station or use the anonymous tips line.
