By Belize Live News Staff: A Belize City man is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to possessing a prohibited homemade firearm and unlicensed ammunition. 34-year-old Denroy Moss, a father of two, was arrested after police discovered the weapon and five live rounds of .38 ammunition in his residence on Sunday morning.
Appearing unrepresented in court, Moss admitted guilt to the charges and explained that he had intended to clean out the area and dispose of the firearm but forgot to do so. His explanation, however, did not spare him from legal consequences. The court adjourned his case until April 17th, at which time he will be sentenced. Moss faces a mandatory jail term of five years.
Authorities continue to urge the public to surrender illegal firearms and report suspicious activity as part of the effort to reduce gun-related incidents across the country.
