By Belize Live News Staff: Belize City police are investigating a harrowing home invasion in the Jane Usher Boulevard area that left a 16-year-old girl bruised and shaken after being attacked in her sleep.
The incident occurred around 4:40 a.m. on Sunday. Officers responded to a distress call reporting a break-in and assault at a residence in the Port Loyola community.
According to initial reports, the teen was asleep when she awoke to a man on top of her. The intruder, who remains unidentified, covered her mouth and threatened to kill her if she made any noise. Despite the threat, the girl managed to scream, alerting her grandmother who was in the same room.
The suspect punched the teen multiple times in the face before fleeing through the front door. Police noted that he likely gained entry by removing two window louvers and using a wooden ladder to climb into the home.
No items were reported stolen, and the girl told police the attacker’s voice sounded familiar, though she could not identify him. Investigators are now working to piece together leads and determine the suspect’s identity.
