Musician stabbed at San Pedro Carnival – Police investigating

By Belize Live News Staff: What should have been a night of music, joy, and cultural celebration quickly spiraled into violence during the San Pedro Town Carnival. Jerome Andrew Mejia, a 34-year-old local musician, was the victim of a brutal stabbing in the heart of the festivities on Monday, March 3.

According to Mejia’s police report, he was enjoying the Carnival at Central Park on Barrier Reef Drive when he was approached by two men. Without warning, one of them pulled a weapon and stabbed him five times before fleeing the scene.

The wounded artist was initially treated at the San Pedro Polyclinic but due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) in Belize City. His current condition remains unknown.

Authorities have since launched an active investigation and are calling on the public to assist with any information that may help identify the assailants.
Police continue to interview witnesses and review footage from the area in hopes of making an arrest soon.
