Rape charge filed against Belizean following U.S. tourist's report

By Belize Live News Staff: In San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, a man has been charged with the rape of a female tourist from the United States. The incident reportedly took place after the victim had been socializing with a group of people and accepted a ride from the accused, leading to an alleged assault at a secluded location. Following her report, police conducted an investigation, leading to the identification and arrest of 35-year-old Oscar Noe Nal. He was formally charged with rape and is expected to appear in court.

Police Commissioner Chester Williams addressed the incident, emphasizing the importance of consent and the trust that tourists place in locals. He stated, “If a woman says no, then it is no, and a man must respect that.” Williams also highlighted the need for timely and thorough investigations in such cases.

This case has raised concerns about tourist safety in Belize, prompting discussions on measures to ensure the well-being of visitors. Officials are continuing their investigation and are encouraging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
