35-year-old San Pedro man accused of raping US woman

Rape charge filed against Belizean following U.S. tourist's report

By Belize Live News Staff: A San Pedro resident has been formally charged with rape after a U.S. national reported a sexual assault that allegedly occurred during her visit to the island.

The woman visited the San Pedro Police Station on Saturday, March 22, 2025, to report that she had been raped in the early hours of Friday, March 21. She told investigators that she and her brother had been out socializing at Wayo’s Bar and Grill in the Boca del Rio area on Thursday night, where they met a man who introduced himself as “Omar.” He joined them for the rest of the night as they visited other establishments.

Sometime around 3:00 a.m., the group returned to their hotel and sat by the beach. After her brother went inside, the woman agreed to go for a short ride with “Omar.” He drove her north of San Pedro, across the bridge to a wooden gazebo built over the sea, where he allegedly forced himself on her before driving her back to the hotel.

The victim underwent a medical examination later that day, and a doctor certified her injuries as wounding. Police investigators reviewed surveillance footage and conducted further inquiries, eventually identifying the suspect as Oscar Noe Nal, also known as “Omar Nal,” a 35-year-old laborer from the San Mateo area of San Pedro Town.

Nal’s clothing from the night in question was recovered, and an identification parade was held on March 22. The victim positively identified Nal as the individual responsible.

On Sunday, March 23, police arrested and charged Oscar Noe Nal for the offense of rape. Investigations are ongoing.
