By Belize Live News Staff: With the 2025 General Elections just around the corner, the Ministry of Finance’s Assets & Utilities Management Unit has issued a memorandum outlining the strict guidelines for the use of Government of Belize (GOB) vehicles during election duties.
The memo, dated March 11, 2025, was addressed to Chief Executive Officers, Heads of Departments, and Finance Officers, reminding them that government vehicles must be used strictly for official election-related duties and not for transporting voters to and from polling stations.
According to the memo, all GOB vehicles designated for election-related activities must display a dashboard sign identifying them as “Official” vehicles. Additionally, all GOB vehicles must remain parked unless being used by public officers in their official capacity for election-related work.
Government departments have also been advised to strictly adhere to protocols outlined in the Government of Belize Vehicle Policy, ensuring that no misuse of state resources occurs during the election period.
The memo, signed by Ashton Longsworth stresses the importance of accountability and transparency in the use of government resources during elections. Any breach of these guidelines could result in disciplinary action.
