By Belize Live News Staff: The Belize tourism industry is mourning the loss of Mike Bogaert, a well-respected adventurer and pioneer in cave exploration, particularly known for his work at Barton Creek Cave.
Bogaert, who dedicated years to guiding visitors through the ancient Maya ceremonial cave, played a significant role in making Barton Creek one of Belize’s top adventure destinations. His knowledge of the underground river system, his passion for Belize’s natural heritage, and his dedication to sustainable tourism earned him the respect of both locals and international travelers.
His family confirmed his passing, expressing gratitude for the support received from the Belizean community.
“We are beyond devastated to announce the passing of our Dad, Mike Bogaert. We appreciate all the help from his friends in the Belize community and the support from our family and friends around the world,” the family stated.
