Philip Goldson International Airport issues scam warning on social media

By Belize Live News Staff: The Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport (PGIA) has taken to social media to debunk a scam falsely claiming that the airport is selling unclaimed luggage for BZ$4.21. The fraudulent post, which has been circulating on platforms like Facebook, features misleading photos of luggage-filled warehouses and a link to a suspicious website.

The airport issued an official statement warning the public not to engage with the post or click the provided link. “This post has been brought to our attention. Please note that we are not selling unclaimed luggage. This is a scam, and you should avoid clicking on the link that is provided,” the statement read.

The scam post falsely asserts that unclaimed luggage collected annually at the airport is being sold as part of a charity event, with delivery promised within five days. However, airport officials confirmed that there is no such program and emphasized that all legitimate information about airport services is available only through its official channels.

Authorities are investigating the scam and have urged the public to report any similar fraudulent activities. Travelers are advised to remain cautious when encountering online offers that seem too good to be true.
