M&M Engineering to construct new San Ignacio/Santa Elena Bridge

By Belize Live News Staff: A new chapter in transportation infrastructure is set to unfold in the Cayo District as the Ministry of Infrastructure Development & Housing partners with M&M Engineering Consultants Ltd. to design and construct a modern replacement for the San Ignacio/Santa Elena low-lying bridge.

The upcoming bridge will be built using reinforced concrete with pre-cast elements, offering increased durability and resilience. Designed to span 95.5 meters, the structure will include a single traffic lane and a dedicated pedestrian walkway, ensuring safer passage for vehicles and foot traffic alike.

Construction will commence on March 17, 2025, requiring the complete closure of the existing timber bridge. Motorists are advised to use the New Macal Bridge or the Hawkesworth Bridge, which will remain open for one-way traffic from San Ignacio to Santa Elena. The Ministry reminds drivers to stay alert and drive safely as construction progresses.
