Philip Goldson Highway closure announced – Here’s what you need to know

By Belize Live News Staff: The Ministry of Infrastructure Development & Housing (MIDH) has announced a short-term closure of the Philip Goldson Highway between the Rotary Roundabout and the Belcan Flag Roundabout to facilitate much-needed road upgrades. The closure will take effect from Thursday, February 13, 2025, at midday and is expected to last until Sunday, February 16, 2025.

This temporary shutdown is necessary for the application of hot-mix asphalt concrete road pavement and will impact both inbound lanes, specifically the two right-hand lanes leading toward the Belcan Flag Roundabout. The Ministry has assured the public that all necessary measures will be taken to minimize disruptions and complete the works efficiently.

Motorists are advised to plan their trips accordingly and use Coney Drive or other alternative routes as directed by traffic management personnel. Commuters should also remain vigilant while navigating detours and exercise caution while driving.

The Ministry apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause, particularly to businesses operating along the affected route. However, these upgrades are crucial to improving road infrastructure and will be conducted under favorable weather conditions to ensure the best possible outcome.

Drivers and pedestrians are encouraged to stay updated on any further announcements regarding this project, as timelines may shift depending on weather conditions. As always, courtesy on the road is encouraged to maintain a smooth flow of traffic during this period.
