By Belize Live News Staff: The Belize National Teachers’ Union (BNTU) has issued a heartfelt statement expressing condolences and solidarity with the Stella Maris School community following the tragic passing of student Gabriel Pablo Orellana on Monday, February 3, 2025.
In a press release, the BNTU extended its sympathies to Gabriel’s family, as well as the principal, teachers, and students of Stella Maris School. The Union acknowledged the deep impact of this loss on the institution and urged the public to join them in offering prayers and support during this difficult time.
“The unfortunate circumstances surrounding this incident are yet to be unraveled, and as the family and school community try to navigate this reality, we wish nothing less than God’s peace to be with them all,” the statement read.
The BNTU also reaffirmed its commitment to standing with teachers, ensuring they receive the necessary counseling and emotional support to cope with the tragedy.
Furthermore, the Union highlighted the long-standing contributions of Stella Maris School in providing quality education to some of Belize’s most vulnerable populations. It called on all stakeholders, including educators, partners, and the general public, to lend a helping hand where possible.
“This incident is by no means a true reflection of the vital pillar of success that is the Stella Maris School Institution,” the statement emphasized, adding that despite the challenges, the school will continue to serve its students with excellence.
