By Belize Live News Staff: Police in Belize City have detained a suspect in connection with the sexual assault of an 8-year-old girl, authorities said.
The incident occurred on Monday evening when the child was sent to a local shop to make a purchase. According to police reports, the girl was waiting outside the shop when a man approached her and touched her inappropriately.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male of short stature and medium build, with bushy hair and a beard. He was reportedly wearing a blue hat with “USA” markings, a blue jacket, and black cloth boots.
The victim immediately informed her family of the assault, who then contacted the police. Authorities have reviewed surveillance footage from the area and detained a suspect for questioning. The investigation is ongoing.
