Supplies Control Unit tackles price offenders across Belize

By Belize Live News Staff: The Supplies Control Unit (SCU) under the Ministry of Agriculture has ramped up efforts to address price regulation violations across the country. A total of 152 stores have been ticketed for offenses, with some stores appearing on the list multiple times. The violations range from offering products for sale above the control price to failing to display prices for controlled goods.

Belize City led the list with 39 reported violations, followed by 28 in Cayo, 18 in San Pedro, 15 in Corozal, 12 in Orange Walk, and 6 each in Stann Creek, Toledo, and Caye Caulker. Notably, San Pedro, a town, had more violations than the combined totals of Stann Creek and Toledo Districts.

The SCU has partnered with NEMO San Pedro to train designated personnel to identify violators and issue tickets, particularly in times of emergencies. Additionally, the Belmopan City Council plans to report violators to the Trade Licensing Board to ensure accountability. Residents who notice price violations are encouraged to report them via 607-4686.

The Ministry continues to emphasize the importance of adhering to price controls, especially for essential goods, to protect consumers from overpricing during challenging times.
