Drinks on me? Belmopan woman says ‘Not So Fast’ after ATM card fraud

By Belize Live News Staff: A 41-year-old woman from Belmopan is demanding a refund after her ATM card was used without her authorization at a shop.

The ordeal began on Monday when the woman accidentally left her ATM card in a Belize Bank ATM. Two hours later, she received notifications of two transactions from Maya Mopan Shop, totaling $220. Upon checking her belongings, she realized the card was missing.

Acting quickly, she went to the shop, where she found that her card had been used twice: once for $157 and another for $63. Both transactions were reportedly for drinks. Upon reviewing security footage, the shop owner identified four men as the individuals who had used the card to make the purchases.

The woman, deeply upset by the incident, has stated that she simply wants her money refunded. However, she has made it clear that if her request is not met, she intends to press charges against the shop or the individuals involved.

Police are continuing their investigation, and the woman hopes for a swift resolution to the matter.
