By Belize Live News Staff: Commissioner of Police Chester Williams has described the ongoing investigation involving medical doctor Carlos Saborio, who was charged with administering a noxious substance, as a “very complex issue.”
Dr. Saborio was charged on December 19 after allegedly spiking the drink of a male nurse with whom he had been socializing. According to reports, the nurse stated that his last memory was getting into Dr. Saborio’s car before waking up more than 24 hours later. Dr. Saborio has since pleaded not guilty and was granted bail.
However, new developments have emerged, with allegations suggesting that Dr. Saborio may himself be a victim of blackmail. Commissioner Williams confirmed that an attorney representing Dr. Saborio had reached out to share evidence indicating a potential extortion scheme linked to the case.
“That’s a very complex issue. I know that there are some allegations of blackmail being involved in the whole issue,” Williams said. “I’m not sure if a report was made to the police officially, but the attorney for the doctor did reach out to me and sent me some information to suggest that indeed there was some element of blackmail.”
Williams noted that the police are prepared to investigate further if an official complaint of blackmail is made. “The police are going to look at it if an official complaint is made, and then we see how we go from there,” he added.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
