Woman returns funds to family after deposit mix-up

By Belize Live News Staff: The family of Elvis and Emerita Garbutt has confirmed receiving $2,000 initially deposited to another individual’s account on their behalf. The funds were meant to purchase caskets for the deceased but had not reached the family, prompting concerns.

San Ignacio businessman Passy Haylock and the Just a Dollar initiative had facilitated the deposit. The recipient of the funds stated she was unaware that her account details were being used to solicit donations for the family. After being informed, she returned the money.

A relative expressed gratitude, saying, “The funds have been received. On behalf of my family, my deceased sister Emerita, and son Elvis Garbutt, I extend our deepest thanks for the generous support and prayers.”

The matter has now been resolved, with the family continuing to receive community support.
