By Belize Live News Staff: A Nicaraguan doctor is facing charges after a Venezuelan male nurse accused him of spiking his drink at a bar, causing him to lose consciousness for two days.
The nurse claims his last memory is getting into the doctor’s vehicle outside Little John’s Bar. He woke up two days later with no memory of the intervening time. Surveillance footage from the bar is being used as evidence in the case.
The accused, Dr. Carlos Saborio Coze, was arrested at his apartment. Police searched his home and his locker at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (where he previously worked) but found no evidence related to the alleged drugging. A medical exam of the nurse showed no signs of sexual assault, but blood tests are underway to determine if drugs were involved.
Dr. Coze claims he is the victim of a blackmail attempt by the nurse and his lawyer. Sources suggest that an out-of-court settlement was attempted before charges were filed.
The doctor has been formally charged and the case is ongoing, pending the results of the forensic analysis.
