Man accused of killing Orin Velasquez acquitted in court

By Belize Live News Staff: Lincoln Daniel Diaz, accused of the murder of Orin “Bredda O” Velasquez, was acquitted in court today. Velasquez, a well-known businessman, was shot and killed during an armed robbery at his pizza shop on Perez Road, Ladyville, on November 3, 2020.

Justice Candace Nanton, presiding over the case, ruled that the evidence presented by the Crown failed to prove Diaz’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. While the prosecution identified Diaz as “Robber 2” in the incident, the court determined there was insufficient evidence to support his involvement under joint enterprise for murder. The alternative charge of manslaughter was also dismissed, as the Crown did not present evidence to establish Diaz’s role in causing Velasquez’s death.

With the ruling, Diaz was cleared of all charges, bringing the case to a close.
