By Belize Live News Staff: Atlantic Bank hosted its inaugural MSME Christmas Market this past Saturday, December 14th, at Memorial Park, marking a significant moment in its efforts to empower local micro, small, and medium enterprises. The event provided a unique platform for small businesses to showcase their products and creativity during the festive season, a time when larger stores typically dominate the market.

The event celebrated the outstanding efforts of participants with recognition and awards for their contributions. Fabric Twist was recognized for its beautifully crafted holiday-themed products, capturing the season’s spirit and earning $350 along with a plaque. Farmed to Perfection received recognition for their sustainable and eco-friendly goods, highlighting the importance of environmentally conscious business practices. Iry’s Butterfly Art stood out for its creativity and originality, earning $500 for its innovative product. Wooden Art Designs was also honored for delivering a compelling and visionary business pitch, receiving $500 and a plaque for their efforts.

Atlantic Bank’s Managing Director, Gregory Maheia, addressed the importance of supporting MSMEs in Belize, emphasizing the sector’s role in economic growth and job creation. He reaffirmed Atlantic Bank’s commitment to driving the development of MSMEs by offering affordable financing, personalized support, market access, and initiatives like trade fairs and exhibitions. Maheia noted that the MSME Christmas Extravaganza exemplifies the bank’s dedication to fostering entrepreneurship and innovation. Reflecting on the resilience of small business owners, he quoted Michael Gerber, saying, “The small business owner is the only one who will risk his life, his fortune, and his sacred honor to achieve success in his own company.”

Laura Raymond, Atlantic Bank’s MSME Unit Manager, also spoke at the event, highlighting its significance as the first of its kind hosted by the bank. She explained that the MSME Christmas Market serves to support small businesses, providing vital exposure and opportunities to thrive during a competitive season. Raymond underscored the importance of giving these businesses visibility, recognizing their hard work and creativity, and acknowledging their vital contributions to Belize’s local economy.

The MSME Christmas Market was a resounding success, serving as both a celebration of local talent and a reminder of the critical role MSMEs play in driving Belize’s economy forward. Through initiatives like these, Atlantic Bank remains committed to empowering small businesses and fostering a culture of innovation and growth across the nation.
