BEL confirms: No countrywide blackout scheduled for today

By Belize Live News Staff: Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) has assured the public that there is no planned countrywide power outage scheduled for Sunday, December 8. The clarification comes in response to a fake social media post circulating misinformation about a supposed outage.

In an official statement, BEL emphasized it is “aware of a fake post being circulated on social media purportedly from BEL announcing a countrywide power outage on Sunday, December 8. BEL hereby assures our customers and the public in general that no such outage is planned for Sunday or any other day.”

The utility company urges customers to rely on its BEL 24-7 App or official website for accurate updates and announcements regarding power services.

While BEL’s statement addresses planned outages, the company noted that unexpected disruptions, such as faults on power lines or external issues like interruptions in electricity supply from Mexico, cannot be entirely ruled out.

Stay tuned for further updates from BEL to ensure access to accurate information.
