Apology spares "Sweet Bwai" Caine from jail in traffic officer assault case

By Belize Live News Staff: Evan “Sweet Bwai” Caine, who was facing a potential three-year jail sentence for aggravated assault of a traffic officer, has been granted a non-custodial sentence.

Caine appeared in court on Wednesday and issued a public apology to Traffic Officer Kenrick Deshield for the incident, which occurred on November 29th.

The Magistrate, taking into consideration Caine’s apology, his time spent on remand, and his status as a first-time offender, opted for leniency.

Instead of jail time, Caine was fined $1,300 with a deadline of March 2025 to pay. Failure to pay will result in a one-year prison sentence.
