Child injured in firecracker explosion, parents urged to practice safety

By Belize Live News Staff: A child sustained a severe leg injury after accidentally detonating a firecracker bomb, prompting renewed warnings about firecracker safety during the festive season. The incident occurred when the child ignited a firecracker beneath a can, causing the can to fragment. One of the pieces struck the child’s leg. According to the parent, the situation could have been fatal if the child had been struck in the face.

The accident has raised concerns about firecracker safety ahead of the holidays, as children are often left unsupervised during celebrations. Authorities and safety advocates are urging parents to monitor their children closely and to educate them about the potential dangers of firecrackers.

With the holiday season in full swing, officials emphasize the importance of safe handling practices to prevent similar incidents and ensure that festivities remain joyful and accident-free.
