By Belize Live News Staff: The detection of New World screwworm in Mexico has sparked concerns about potential repercussions for Belize’s livestock exports. On Friday, Mexico’s Chief Veterinary Officer reported the presence of the screwworm in a cow at a checkpoint near the Guatemalan border in Chiapas. This has led to the United States temporarily halting cattle imports from Mexico.
Both the U.S. and Mexico are implementing measures to control the spread of the virus and ensure export safety. Meanwhile, Mexico is facing pressure from livestock associations in Belize and Guatemala, urging further preventative actions to protect cross-border trade.
