By Belize Live News Staff: The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) has launched a comprehensive response effort to assist communities across Belize affected by recent adverse weather conditions. Mobilizing teams and resources nationwide, NEMO remains committed to reaching those in need as swiftly and effectively as possible.
In collaboration with the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services of Belize, NEMO is closely monitoring daily weather forecasts and flood conditions. Coordinators are working hand in hand with river monitors, community leaders, and local authorities to assess and update water levels, ensuring timely interventions. The Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing (MIDH) is conducting assessments of roads, bridges, and ferries across the country to ensure the safety of residents and accessibility to essential services. Additionally, the Belize Defence Force (BDF) and Belize Coast Guard (BCG) have been instrumental in assisting residents in affected areas like Flowers Bank and Rancho Dolores, utilizing Hino vehicles and flatbed vessels for transportation and support.
Regional teams stationed in Cayo and Belmopan are actively addressing the needs of flood-affected communities, distributing humanitarian aid, and supporting transportation efforts with the assistance of BDF personnel. Damage and Needs Assessment (DANA) teams are currently evaluating the impact in the Cayo District, while preparations are underway to provide transportation support for residents of Freetown Sibun and Crooked Tree Village as soon as evaluations are completed.
NEMO assures the public that its work will continue until all affected communities have been reached. Citizens are encouraged to stay informed through official channels for updates and safety advisories. For emergencies, NEMO’s hotline is available at 936.
