By Belize Live News Staff: Yesterday, a young jaguar created a stir in Hattieville after being chased by a pack of dogs into a warehouse at Castillo Hardware. The incident led to several rumors, including claims that the jaguar had been captured for dubious purposes. These rumors were unfounded, as the situation was quickly managed by the Forest Department and Belize Zoo officials.
The jaguar had been cornered in the storeroom by the dogs during the early morning hours. The property owner, noticing the animal, quickly secured the storeroom to protect it from further harm. Responding swiftly to the report, the Forest Department and Belize Zoo tranquilized the jaguar and safely transported it to the Belize Zoo, where a comprehensive health assessment is now being conducted.
Authorities report that the jaguar will soon be relocated to a secure location in the wild and fitted with a tracking collar to monitor its movements. While concerns about the proximity of jaguar habitats to human settlements persist, the Forestry Department emphasizes its commitment to balancing community safety with wildlife conservation.
