By Belize Live News Staff: Prime Minister John Briceño addressed the nation on Sunday via social media, marking his first statement since sounding the ‘all clear’ for Tropical Storm Sara.
“We are thankful that no lives were lost,” Briceño stated, expressing gratitude for the nation’s safety. He commended the country’s emergency service teams and first responders, adding, “We gratefully work with them as we move forward.”
While the storm spared lives, its impact remains significant. Briceño acknowledged the challenges ahead, saying, “We do expect that the rather sizable tropical storm’s immense rainfall will result in some flood damages. We stand ready for the recovery and any required assistance to ensure our agricultural sector, other sectors, infrastructure, communities, and families recover and we restore some normalcy.”
He extended sympathies to neighboring Honduras, where Sara continued its destructive path. “Tropical Storm Sara has made its way across Honduras with impacts that will no doubt tell of its destruction of floods and mudslides. Our hearts go out to the people and government of Honduras,” Briceño said.
