Floodwaters recede in San Ignacio Town following Tropical Storm Sara’s impact

By Belize Live News Staff: Tropical Storm Sara made landfall in Belize on Sunday, November 17, 2024, causing widespread flooding as waters from the Macal River surged, reaching the Cayo Welcome Center.

In anticipation of the storm’s impact, market vendors and local businesses in San Ignacio Town acted swiftly, evacuating their stalls and relocating goods to safer locations. Their prompt action helped minimize losses as the storm unleashed heavy rains across the region.

As of this morning, the floodwaters have started to recede, offering a much-needed reprieve to the affected areas. Market vendors are now cleaning and restoring their stalls, while businesses are assessing damage and preparing to resume normal operations.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, providing updates to ensure the safety of residents and visitors as recovery efforts progress.
