By Belize Live News Staff: Located at Mile 17 on the George Price Highway, Rob’s Fyah Hearth is a beloved spot known for its authentic “Fyah Haawt” cuisine. However, its remote location has made it a prime target for criminals. This past Tuesday, the restaurant suffered its third robbery.
Two employees were inside preparing for the next day’s service when a gunman entered the kitchen, followed by a group of accomplices. The men stole money, phones, and other valuables from the staff before making their escape.
Sabrina Robinson, the restaurant’s cook, recounted the terrifying ordeal:
“We were getting ready for the next day, and suddenly, this young man behind me stopped in his tracks. I looked up and saw the gunman. He told me not to move, not to run. Then he demanded money from the drawer and our phones.”
As Sabrina complied, she tried to remain calm, even as the robbers became increasingly aggressive.
“He even asked me to remove the SIM card from my phone. I told him, ‘No, I can’t do that.’ Eventually, they left through the back door and ran off.”
The entire incident unfolded in less than 20 minutes, leaving the staff shaken. Sabrina immediately called 911, and within minutes, the police arrived. They apprehended two minors and a 19-year-old suspect, Sergio Cruz, charging them with robbery.
The team at Rob’s Fyah Hearth is calling for increased police patrols, given the area’s history of violent crime. The hope is that stronger security measures can deter future incidents and provide a safer environment for both staff and customers.
