Prepare Now: Tropical Storm Sara set to impact Belize this weekend

By Belize Live News Staff: Tropical Storm Sara is currently advancing towards Belize, prompting the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) to issue an urgent advisory. As of this afternoon, the storm was located roughly 330 miles east of Belize City, moving westward at 10 mph. Sara is expected to strengthen slightly before making landfall on Sunday, with winds potentially reaching 50 mph.

The Prime Minister has declared the Preliminary Phase of the National Hurricane Plan, signaling the need for heightened vigilance. Heavy rainfall, estimated between 5 to 10 inches, poses a significant risk of flooding, particularly in low-lying areas. Coastal regions may also experience minor flooding, while strong winds could lead to damage in some locations.

Flood warnings remain active for central and northern Belize, including the Rio Hondo, Macal, and Mopan Rivers. Residents are urged to stay informed, finalize their emergency preparations, and monitor updates from NEMO and the Meteorological Service. With hurricane season still active, readiness is key to minimizing risks and ensuring community safety.
