By Belize Live News Staff: The Government of Belize has condemned Israel’s recent decision to bar the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) from operating within its borders. The ban follows Israeli legislation aimed at halting support for the agency, which provides vital services like education, healthcare, and protection for Palestinian refugees.
In a statement, Foreign Minister Francis Fonseca described the decision as “irresponsible” and called on the international community to ensure that humanitarian aid continues to reach Gaza. He emphasized UNRWA’s critical role in safeguarding the welfare of Palestinians amid ongoing conflict.
“Belize firmly condemns this latest action by Israel, which jeopardizes the health and safety of Palestinian people,” Fonseca stated. He also reiterated Belize’s solidarity with Palestine, urging global efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
When asked about the potential impact of Trump’s re-election on the Middle East, Fonseca noted, “It’s a complex situation. We’ll see how things unfold next year.”
