Man charged after threat to Prime Minister’s Office

By Belize Belize Live News Staff: Police have arrested and charged a man accused of calling in a threat against the Prime Minister’s office. On October 24, a caller to LOVE FM warned that “something big” would happen at the Sir Edney Cain Building in Belmopan, adding he intended to “bring a stop to politics in Belize.”

The police took immediate action, evacuating the government building and conducting a thorough search. No threats or hazards were found, and the situation was resolved without incident.

Investigators traced the call to Tyler Coc, a resident of Red Bank Village in the Stann Creek District. According to police, Coc admitted to making the threat, stating his intention was to secure a meeting with Prime Minister John Briceño.

Coc was detained by officers in Independence and formally charged on October 26 with “Mischievous Act.” The charge carries legal consequences for causing public alarm and wasting police resources.

Police have reiterated that threats, even if unsubstantiated, are treated with the utmost seriousness.
