Aragon and Figueroa join delegates in supporting Panton to lead UDP

By Belize Live News Staff: In a significant development within the United Democratic Party (UDP), prominent members Omar Figueroa and Elodio Aragon, along with their respective delegates, have publicly endorsed Tracy Taegar Panton as interim leader. Letters sent to current leader Shyne Barrow expressed their preference for Panton, citing concerns about the current state of party leadership and the impact of internal discord on UDP’s progress since the 2020 elections.

Figueroa’s letter, representing the Cayo North executive, highlighted ongoing divisions within the party and emphasized the need for a unified approach. He called for Panton to step in as interim leader to restore stability, advocating for collaboration among the 31 UDP constituencies to work toward a long-term resolution.

Similarly, Aragon, speaking for the Orange Walk East constituency, shared that extensive discussions within his team led them to conclude that Panton is the best candidate to lead the UDP into the next general election. The letter suggested that while Barrow may have the support of some standard bearers, not all delegates are united behind his leadership.

With both regional leaders backing Panton, the UDP faces increasing pressure to address its internal divisions as it prepares for upcoming elections.
