By Belize Live News Staff: In a bid to promote energy efficiency and reduce electricity costs, Michel Chebat, Minister of Public Utilities, Energy, Logistics & E-Governance, handed over 750 LED bulbs to Kevin Bernard, Area Representative for Orange Walk East, on October 29, 2024. This initiative, part of a broader effort by the Ministry, aims to support local communities in conserving energy and lowering household electricity bills.
During the handover at the Ministry’s main office in Belmopan, Minister Chebat highlighted the importance of transitioning to more energy-efficient lighting. He noted that the LED bulbs, which consume significantly less energy than traditional incandescent or fluorescent bulbs, would aid in reducing energy consumption in Orange Walk East while providing longer-lasting lighting. This effort aligns with the government’s commitment to sustainable development and the responsible use of natural resources.
Kevin Bernard expressed gratitude for the initiative, emphasizing the benefits it brings to households in Orange Walk East and encouraging residents to adopt these energy-saving solutions. He thanked Minister Chebat and the Ministry for their ongoing commitment to sustainability.
This distribution is one of many planned by the Ministry as part of Energy Month in November, with funding provided by the European Union under the Lait up Belize Project. Through efforts like these, the Ministry continues to advance its goals of creating a greener, more energy-conscious Belize.
