Belize’s iconic singer and activist Nadia Cattouse dies just days before 100th birthday

By Belize Live News Staff: Belize is mourning the loss of Nadia Cattouse, the country’s most celebrated female vocalist of the 20th century. Known for her powerful and distinctive voice, Cattouse left an indelible mark on Belizean music, recording some of the nation’s most cherished songs. She passed away in London at the age of 99, just four days short of her 100th birthday.

Cattouse was more than a singer; she was an actor and an activist who proudly represented Belize on the world stage. Born to Deputy Prime Minister Albert Cattouse and Kathleen Fairweather, she was also the first cousin of legendary record producer Compton Fairweather. Her legacy continues to resonate through her contributions to music, art, and social causes.

As Belize reflects on her life and accomplishments, Cattouse is remembered as a trailblazer whose voice and spirit embodied the heart of Belizean culture.
