By Belize Live News Staff: The Belize Audubon Society (BAS), co-manager of seven protected areas in Belize, held its bi-annual staff meeting on Friday. Representatives from Half Moon Caye Natural Monument, Blue Hole Natural Monument, Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary, St. Herman’s Blue Hole National Park, Guanacaste National Park, and Victoria Peak Natural Monument gathered to discuss conservation efforts.
This unique event offers staff from each protected site the opportunity to collaborate, share updates on conservation initiatives, discuss monitoring statistics, and review visitor engagement. Although each site hosts its own local meetings, and BAS headquarters holds monthly gatherings, the bi-annual meeting stands out for bringing together staff from all BAS-managed protected areas.
During the meeting, BAS leadership honored Derick Hendy, Site Manager for Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary, for his extraordinary 25 years of service with BAS and 30 years in conservation. His dedication serves as an inspiration across the organization. Additionally, Alfonso Baptist, who could not attend in person, was celebrated for his 10-year commitment to BAS.
While many staff members were able to attend in person, others remained at their respective sites, ensuring that protected areas remained accessible to visitors.
