Excessive rainfall watch in effect as Belize braces for weekend deluge

By Belize Live News Staff: Get those umbrellas ready, folks! The National Meteorological Service of Belize has issued an Excessive Rainfall Watch for the entire country, warning of heavy showers, thunderstorms, and periods of rain throughout the weekend. Moist and unstable conditions are to blame, and the soggy situation is expected to worsen as we head into Saturday night.

Today’s forecast is a gloomy one, with mostly cloudy skies giving way to overcast conditions. Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop this morning, becoming more widespread and intense by the afternoon and evening. Despite the dreary weather, temperatures will remain warm, with highs of 84°F (29°C) along the coast and a steamy 86°F (30°C) inland.

If you’re planning any coastal activities, be aware that seas will be light chop to choppy with waves reaching 2-5 feet. Winds will be blowing from the north-northeast at 10-20 knots.

NEMO is urging all Belizeans to stay vigilant and monitor weather conditions closely. The organization has activated its hotline (936) to provide updates and assistance, while the Hydrology Unit (822-0667) can provide information on localized flooding risks.

The good news is that we can rule out any tropical cyclones developing over the next 48 hours. The National Hurricane Center has given the all-clear for the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico.

However, the threat of flooding from persistent rainfall is very real. Stay tuned to Belize Live News for the latest weather updates and heed all advisories from NEMO and local authorities. Stay safe and dry, Belize!
