San Pedro mother pleads not guilty to child neglect after daughters found alone

By Belize Live News Staff: A 31-year-old mother has been charged with child neglect after her two young daughters, aged 4 and 6, were found wandering unsupervised on the streets of the DFC area in San Pedro. Police were alerted by a concerned neighbor, and the mother was detained by police on Tuesday.

The mother arrived at the scene shortly after police and was reported to have smelled of alcohol. Both children were placed in the care of human services. The mother appeared in magistrate’s court on Tuesday, where she pleaded not guilty to the charge of child neglect. She was granted bail in the amount of $1,000 with one surety of the same sum.
