UDP denounces Alliance for Democracy for fraudulent use of party logo and name

By Belize Live News Staff: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has released a statement condemning the Alliance for Democracy Party (ADP) and its leader Tracy Panton for what it describes as “fraud and deception.” The UDP accuses the ADP of misleading the public by using the UDP logo and name inappropriately.

According to the press release dated October 20, 2024, the ADP, a third party formed by former members of the UDP, rejected the UDP’s anti-corruption and political reform agenda under the leadership of Shyne Barrow, Hugo Patt, Michael Peyrefitte, Alberto August, and the UDP Executive. The release emphasized that these former members of the “old guard” left the UDP in opposition to the party’s efforts to combat corruption and push for political reforms.

The UDP expressed respect for the choice of Belizeans to support any political organization, including the ADP, but strongly condemned the ADP’s alleged attempts to confuse and mislead the public. The UDP characterized these actions as “malicious, unscrupulous, and anti-democratic.”

The UDP reaffirmed its support for Party Leader Shyne Barrow, Deputy Leader Hugo Patt, Party Chairman Michael Peyrefitte, and Deputy Party Chairman Alberto August. The UDP stated that it remains confident in its chances of victory in the upcoming general elections, bolstered by the leadership of its current executive team. The party also highlighted its commitment to hold its National Convention immediately following the elections.

In closing, the UDP reiterated its stance to continue its fight against corruption and maintain its focus on political reform, while cautioning the public about the actions of the ADP.
