By Belize Live News Staff: In a sobering admission, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams has acknowledged that Belize is facing a crisis with the escalating number of motorcycle fatalities. Over the past six weeks alone, the country has recorded its eighth and ninth motorcycle deaths, sparking growing concerns about road safety.
Commissioner Williams, speaking on the issue, noted that while police enforcement and checkpoints are in place, many motorcyclists continue to defy traffic laws, putting their lives at risk. In his statement, he pointed out that these accidents often occur despite the presence of safety measures.
Williams admitted that he himself, while driving, has had close encounters where he could have accidentally hit a motorcyclist due to reckless behavior on the roads. He emphasized the importance of road users taking responsibility for their actions.
