Customs intercepts truck smuggling 1,500 gallons of fuel in Independence

By Belize Live News Staff: A truck carrying 1,500 gallons of fuel, believed to have been smuggled from Guatemala, was intercepted late Thursday night by customs authorities in Independence Village. The vehicle, which was loaded with barrels and tanks, is suspected of being part of an illegal cross-border fuel trade.

The driver, identified as a resident of Pueblo Viejo, Toledo, is currently in custody. According to officials, customs agents are awaiting information from the person believed to have orchestrated the fuel shipment.

Authorities are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the smuggling attempt. They have not yet disclosed what penalties or fines may be imposed as the investigation unfolds.

“We’re monitoring the situation closely and will provide updates as more information becomes available,” said a customs official.
