Beloved former Belize Police officer Santiago Ciau passes away at 37

By Belize Live News Staff: Santiago Ciau Jr., a well-liked and respected former police officer, passed away yesterday following a long battle with a debilitating bone illness. Ciau, 37, was medically retired from the Belize Police Department in 2023 after being declared unfit for duty due to his condition, which severely impacted his mobility. Ciau’s story gained public attention last year when the Social Security Board denied his claim for invalidity benefits, a decision that sparked sympathy and concern from the community. He is remembered for his dedication to the force and the kindness he extended to those around him.
