Woman hospitalized after alleged attempted arson by common-law partner

By Belize Live News Staff: A domestic dispute in Independence Village took a violent turn on Thursday night, leaving 30-year-old Karima Logan with severe burn injuries. According to police, Logan’s partner, 24-year-old Travis Lopez, allegedly doused her with gasoline and set her on fire during an altercation.

Logan was quickly taken to the hospital for treatment, and authorities have since arrested Lopez. He is currently facing charges of attempted murder as the investigation into the incident continues.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Hilberto Romero shared that officers had responded to a report of a domestic dispute involving the couple a few months ago. At that time, the situation had been addressed, though no further details were provided regarding the prior incident.

“This was a domestic dispute that escalated violently,” ACP Romero explained. The authorities are now working to gather more information about the events leading up to the incident, and Lopez remains in police custody.
